On the Vagina note

Here's an article by one of my role models, Christina Hoff Sommers, once again illustrating the hypocrisy of the radical feminist movement:
Why Can't They Just Get Along?
She's an amazing writer, and anyone who hasn't read the books Who Stole Feminism and The War Against Boys should.

  • May I just ask why you are *so* angry towards the feminist movement?

Your argument seems to be that these feminists are themselves angry, yet you continually point fingers and lash out at the movement.

  • My argument isn't that the feminist movement is angry (though if you show me where exactly I said that, I'll concede the point), my argument is that the feminist movement, in its modern incarnation, is a distortion of the original intent of the early equality feminists. It has become a liberal movement instead of a woman's movement. The platform has become too narrow for women with conservative values, and has degenerated into a vehicle for radicals like Kim Gandy to stand on their soapboxes and rail against Bush, against the pro-life movement, against religious values and a conservative view of government. And at its worst, it has become about playing the victim in every situation, even as women have arguably reached equality with men here in our country. And yet NOW continues to whine about restrictions on abortion and the wage-gap fallacy while women in other countries still suffer. So yes, I am angry about the feminist movement. Historically, it has accomplished a lot, but now it's just a tarnished reflection of what it used to be.

  • To hear the "feminists" of today talk, the only way to empower women left is to give them free abortions beginning in elementary school. The real travesty, however, is in the behavior of the administration in this case. If they had cracked down on the vagina warriors, they would have had the moral authority to crack down on the penis warriors. By allowing the "vagina festivities" to continue "unmolested" (poor choice of words I know but the pun is unintentional), they lost any moral authority in this case.

  • I actually had a conversation with a "Vagina Warrior" last night/early this morning. Send me an e-mail if you'd like to read the conversation. It was hilarious.
